Setting up an email address on your very own domain certainly sets a world of difference for your brand. An email address on your domain is your permanent address with no restrictions whatsoever.
You can set-up an email on your domain with any email host. Any! - It doesn't have to necessarily be your domain registrar. You're free to host your domain email anywhere and you can move it whenever.
In this article, I have listed two recommended email hosts for any business. What follows are the steps to add MX records for your domain to ensure email delivery.
RECOMMENDED EMAIL HOSTS
1. Zoho Mail : Zoho mail is my number one recommended choice because it has a free option for up to 25 users. It has a unique and clean interface and they never display advertisements. Zoho mail makes it easy to set up groups. It allows you to manage group membership, implement policies, and control incoming and outgoing mails. You can also manage emails on the go by downloading their mobile app.
2. Google Apps: I recommend Google Apps because it provides you with the same email benefits you get with a personal Gmail account. There's also an additional benefit of Google Drive, Google Calendar etc.
Host your custom domain email with the above email hosts and you shall never regret.
Configure Email Delivery For Your Domain
Below is a simplified procedure on how you can configure email delivery for your domain. It is designed for both Google Apps and Zoho mail users. Let's get started!
1. Log in to your domain's registrar account.
2. Go to domain management and click on DNS settings.
3. Edit your MX records. Delete any existing MX record.
4. Add a new MX record.
For Zoho users.
Host | Priority | Points To
@ | 10 | mx.zoho.com
@ | 20 | mx2.zoho.com
For Google Apps Users.
Host | Priority | Points To
@ |1 | aspmx.l.google.com
There are four other MX records alternatives for google apps email configuration. Refer here for more details.
5. When you're done entering the records, save changes.
Congratulations, you have now added the MX records successfully. You may have to wait for at least an hour for the changes to take effect in the DNS Servers. After an hour or two, you can now receive emails on your domain.
